Age Requirements

All students must be a minimum of 15 years old, unless they are part of an organized group.

Medical Insurance

We recommend all students arrange for medical coverage before coming to Canada. Medical insurance can be arranged on arrival in Canada however, if necessary.

VISA

To study longer than three months, students are required to obtain a student's VISA. To obtain a student's VISA (authorization), applicants must show officials at a Canadian embassy or consulate the following items:

  • A Letter of Acceptance from the school A valid PassportA letter confirming good health (mandatory in some embassies/ consulates, but not in all)
  • An indicator of sufficient funds

To obtain the school's Letter of Acceptance, fees must be paid in advance. See BEC Canada's Fee Schedule.

Student VISAs can be obtained only outside of Canada and can take as little as 2 working days, or as long as 2 to 3 months. (Check with your local Canadian embassy).

To study 3 months or less, no student VISA is required. Students either get a tourist VISA in their home country or are given an entry stamp on arrival at any Canadian port of entry.

Renewing a student VISA or visitor VISA is usually only a formality. The application must be mailed to immigration 4 weeks before the current visa runs out.

For further information about obtaining a VISA, visit the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Website.
